BUILDING A LINUX FIREWALL
BUILDING NIDS WITH SNORT
NETWORK MONITORING WITH MRTG
NETWORK MONITORING WITH NAGIOS
Duration 3 Hours
You have a number of hosts, services (e.g. DNS, Web, and Mail), host processes, and hardware usage to look after. MRTG does a great job but does not alert you when there are problems. For an open source solution, you can consider using Nagios but Why? Excluding the different UNIX variants I look after, can I get Nagios do same for the Windows systems? If so how?

Practice Labs:
  • Installing Nagios from sources
  • Configuring Apache for Nagios
  • Configuring Nagios to Monitor Linux/Windows machines
  • Monitoring SSHD, Web Server, Name Services and Mail Server
  • Setting up secure Nagios Administration with Open SSH
  • Setting up secure Nagios Administration with Open SSL
  • Graphing Performance info with MRTG
  • Tuning Nagios for Optimal Performance
  • Security considerations
